Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus. They are largely variable in size from the size of a pea to a football.
Two thirds of women do not experience any symptoms and therefore, without regular gynaecological checkups, they remain undiagnosed. This is problematic because, if left untreated, the fibroids can cause complications with future pregnancies and fertility.
Fibroids without symptoms often shrink and disappear over time. Treatments available if you are experiencing symptoms include medication, surgery, x-ray, and uterine fibroid embrolisation (UFE).
